I have to confess and y'all might hate me for it. I hated Kelly Kapoor in the Office. She was clingy on Ryan, who was an absolute jackass to her, and jabbered on incessantly even when it was apparent to her that no one wanted to listen. Of course, at the time I did not register the significance of a having a brown skinned woman not only acting in the show but also writing for it and clearly being recognized for it - which is why now, even before the long overdue demise of the Office, she has enough talent to launch her own show. First of all: WOOOT! Brown-Woman-in-the-Lead-Role Pride.
Second: Non-anorexic, healthy and totally confident woman in lead role.
Third: It's been a while since I've seen Chris Messina on screen - since Julie and Julia :)
Despite its noted shortcomings, I am more than willing (actually desperately hoping) to give this show a chance. Hello, how many times do South Asians make history like this? Not too often, so I say we take a moment and appreciate the fact that Mindy Kaling has made television history. She has broken the mould of a-brown-is-no-more-than-side-kick-of-the-lead by becoming the lead.
