Is Bridget Jones Still Relevant in 2013?

Sunday, July 14, 2013

Stylist.co.uk posed a similar question in 2011. Is she?

While I can't claim to be a chain-smoking, blubbering, fish-monger-like woman in her thirties reminiscing about single-hood, I can (quite shamefully) admit that I am a chain-swearing woman who blows her first world problems and post puberty weight gain out of proportions.

But Bridget Jones is like the modern Elizabath Bennet. Although, often post-Pride-and-Prejudice read, I can be prudish and declare that there cannot be another character like Elizabeth Bennet, which in a sense is true, I think it's somewhat safe to state that Bridget Jones does remind me of Elizabeth Bennet. Minus the grace and plus the alcoholic problems. Pretty sure though, if Elizabeth Bennet could have access to alcohol she would by any means try to get drunk to drown out her annoying mother's "raptures".

She is endearing, relatable(apparently this isn't a word) and most importantly flawed. One of those heroines who are well aware of the realities of romantic escapades, know that looks alone do not bewitch men and realize that everyone has a their fair share of baggage to distribute in the solid relationship. I wouldn't exactly say she is a timeless character, given that her personality would not be considered lady-like a few centuries ago, I can say that her oft crass behaviour - come on, more or less we are all gulty of swearing our lungs out to vent our first world frustrations out - is quite timeless (gah, I need to find a better expression for it) for the forseeable future.

With that being said, I'm wildy excited for Helen Fieldings new venture and eagerly await, I hope, the reincarnation of Mark Darcy probably at his sultriest. And crossing my fingers that he doesn't turn out anything like he was depicted in Bridget Jones 2.

What Traditional Serenades Consist Of

Monday, July 01, 2013

A topic that I can only conjure past midnight. Clearly the aftermath of the wedding is still ringing in my ears. And for this year, I think 2013 witnessed the release of some pretty romantic and soulful music from Bollywood - according to me at least.

So click away, listen, judge, scrunch your nose (face - if you're that flexible) and cringe at the compiled list of songs I've soulfully been attempting to sing for the past month.

Saadi Galli Aaja - Nautanki Saala

Mera Mann Kehne Laga - Nautanki Saala

Tum Hi Ho - Arjun feat. Rekha Sawhney

Tum Hi Ho - Aashiqui 2

Title Song - Raanjhanaa

Titli - Chennai Express

Bin Tere - I Hate Luv Storys

Ishq Wala Love - Student of the Year
